SKEETER HAWK PROJECT

WHAT IS THIS??!

  • PART 1 Ladies and Gentlemen, what you see in that picture is a piece of your fishing heritage. It was the forerunner of what has become the modern bass boat of today.
  • PART 2 The first thing we did was hose out the boat and scrub the flooring and interior sidewalls. No 'sanitized', the Skeeter' was ready for a thorough examination. Here were the visual findings:
  • PART 3 We cut the original flooring out of the Skeeter, leaving a 2-inch lip all the way around. That is intended to allow us to re-install the old floor over the new sub-floor we are installing. The intent is to simple glass over the cut line, smooth it down and re-paint it.
  • PART 4 Boy, that old boat must have had enough nuts, bolts, screws, and mounting 'stuffs' to outfit a good-sized hardware store! There is no telling what they were all used for.
  • PART 5 With the inner hull of the boat now replaced with encapsulated marine plywood and foam, we were ready to replace the actual flooring of the Skeeter.
  • PART 6 Our antique Skeeter Hawk requires a few more things than just a repair and refinish facelift. It also requires that we make it 'fishable'.
  • PART 7 Our next steps are to clean everything up and do the cosmetic work. That is followed by painting.
  • PART 8 When we finally got a break in the guiding, our next step with the Skeeter was to clean everything up and do the cosmetic work. That was followed by exterior painting.
  • PART 9 For the final phases of refurbishing our old Skeeter Hawk bass boat, we decided it needed to be on a platform we could move around a bit. So, it was 'trailer-time'.
  • PART 10 Just the other day, we decided it was time to 'sink or swim'. So, we loaded a bit of fishing gear, the required safety equipment, and a few miscellaneous items into the Skeeter and off to the Stick Marsh we went. Once there, it was about an hour before we were able to launch, as everyone who saw the rig had to have a closer look and ask questions.

A common question that we get: "Is there somewhere close to get bait and tackle?" This is where we get our bait.
